Tong Zhang is currently an associate Professor in the Electrical, Computer and Systems Engineering Department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. He received the B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from the Xian Jiaotong University, China, in 1995 and 1998, respectively. He received the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, in 2002.
His current research interests are signal processing integrated circuits and architectures design for data storage, multimedia processing, and digital communication. Being highly inter-disciplinary in nature, his research aims to build the critical bridge between theory and practice by harnessing the power of signal processing theory in nanoelectronics, thereby allowing the explosion of numerous real-world applications. He is a member of IEEE Signal Processing Society Technical Committee on Design and Implementation of Signal Processing Systems, IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Technical Committee on VLSI Systems and Applications, and IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Technical Committee on Circuits and Systems for Communications.
